Stromanthe sanguinea
ð¿ Basic Overview
Scientific name: Stromanthe sanguinea âTriostarâ
Common names: Triostar, Tricolor Stromanthe
Family: Marantaceae (same family as prayer plants)
Origin: Rainforests of Brazil
ð Appearance
Famous for its variegated leaves â creamy white, pink, and green on top, with deep magenta undersides.
The leaves fold upward at night, much like a prayer plant.
It grows in a bushy, upright form, usually reaching 2â3 feet tall indoors.
âï¸ Light
Loves bright, indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight â it can fade the pink and white colors or burn the leaves.
Too little light = dull or greenish leaves.
ð§ Water
Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy.
Let the top ½ inch of soil dry before watering again.
Use filtered or rainwater if possible â itâs sensitive to fluoride and salts.
ð¡ï¸ Temperature & Humidity
Prefers 65â80°F (18â27°C) and high humidity (60%+).
Regular misting or a humidifier helps prevent brown edges.
ð± Soil
Likes well-draining, rich soil, such as a mix of peat/coco coir, perlite, and potting soil.
𪴠Care Level
Moderate â it needs attention to humidity and water quality, but itâs very rewarding when happy.
